Deepak
was a Rotaractor from the year 1982 till ’85.
He joined the Rotary Club, Pune Shivajinagar, at a young
age of 26 in the year 1991. From the year 2000 he became
a very active member. He has held many important positions
in the club - Treasurer, Joint Secretary, Secretary,
Director, Vice President, Program Committee Chairman,
Bulletin Editor. He was chosen to lead the club for
the year 2005 - 06. |

Rotary Group study Exchange Team leaving for USA
Rotary International is a Global network of Community Volunteers which is organised in the form of 30,000 clubs in 162 countries and which works to promote World peace and understanding though exchanges of professionals, people to people contacts, and programs like the Group Study Exchange Scholarships.

Rotary Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The selection of the team members happens on merit and with a transparent selection process
Rotary district 3130 comprising of 13 revenue districts of state of Maharashtra is sending a team of 5 eminent young professionals to District 6600 Ohio USA for a period of 4 weeks from April 22 – May 22. Team leader is an experienced Rotarian and other team members are non Rotarians in the age group 25-40.
The team leader for the current team is Rtn Deepak Shikarpur serving Assistant Governor and IT entrepreneur and writer. Other team members are Priya Gokhale an Architect, Ashiwini Sovani a faculty in IBS – Pune, Madhuri Gokhale a Lecturer in English in BMCC College and Pradnya Kulkarni working as a Researcher with Deecan College Pune. |

IT
literacy and knowledge of computers has nothing to do
with economic well being. Many slum children have learnt
IT and have aspirations to become big in life. Jagruiti
Seva Sanstha and Rotary Club of Pune SHivajinagar have
decided to work for this noble cause and create a difference
in a few lives.

| We presented
a PC to a needy talented child Gururaj and also recognise
the students who have completed the computer course from Janwadi
and vaiduwadi slums. Parents of all children are illeterate
and are from very low income group. Thanks to Rotary thier
children could be IT literate.
I am pleased to inform you that Maharashtrabhushan Padmsharee
Dr Vijay Bhatkar graced the occassion to recognise these children
and presented PC to Gururaj.
This function was held on Thursday May 18 at 6 pm
at Janawadi Janata Vasahat. |

Marathi
Flim industry is going through a dream run and many
marathi movies are Box Office Hits. Pune the Pandhari
of Marathi has a lot to do to promote awareness of Marathi
movies in Masses. Younger generation must be motivated
to watch Marathi movies.

We at Rotary Club of Pune
Shivajinagar have constituted Rotary Marathi Film Awards from
this year. We have two awards. One for a Multilplex showing
Marathi movies and other for a promising actor from Marathi
movies.
In a Glittering function held on Monday May 15, 2006 Rotary
Marathi Film awards were presented. Mrs Asha Kale leading
actress from Marathi cinema and theatre was the Chief Guest.
Citipride Kothrud Multiplex won the Best theatre award and
Mr Sandeep Kulkarni (Shwas, Dombivali Fast, Sane Guruji) fame
who has won all Best Actor award for Dombivali Fast won the
Best Actor award.

Direction Nominee (2007-09) visits Polio Corrective
Surgery camp organized by Rotary Club of Pune Shivajinagar

Polio affected
young children deserve a better life. They too need to walk,
lead a normal life and be socially acceptable citizen. Realising
this need, Rotary Club Of Pune Shivajinagar is initiating
Polio corrective surgeries for the past 3 years. This project
is ably lead by Rtn Dr Vilas Jog a famous orthopedic surgeon
from Pune.
On April 24, 2006 the polio corrected children had a Famous
visitor to share happiness with them. RI Director Nominee
Rtn Ashok Mahajan met the children and expresses his joy of
adding value to their lives through Rotary.

| 'One
man makes the difference' and
that's Rotarian Deepak Shikarpur
‘One man makes the difference’ goes the saying
in Management Principles. Given a similar situation, opportunities
and resources, he makes the best of it, gives best results
and is successful. Somebody who applies his mind, utilizes
resources optimally, achieves the best results and surfaces
as a leader. “I am not exaggerating when I say that
Deepak Shikarpur is a person of this tribe” says Dr.
Sudhir Rashingkar, Past District Governor, Rotary dist 3130.
“Year 2005 - 06, Deepak’s tenure as President,
has seen the club perform excellent projects and having wonderful
public relations, thereby enhancing the image, which is Rotary’s
area of high importance.
He has written books and articles in Marathi, enabling the
common man easy access to computers and IT. His work has been
recognized by the Government of Maharashtra.
He has bought about many radical changes at the Maratha Chamber
of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, the Computer Society
of India, the University of Pune as well as the Rotary Club,
Pune Shivajinagar. His work in this field is never ending
and every day, he brings out new ideas and strives hard to
bring them to reality.
I find him to be person without any complexes. He mixes feely
in any type of gatherings, expresses his views forthrightly
and once takes an assignment, throws himself in fully to make
his ideas come to reality. His enthusiasm sometimes makes
others feel frightened! |

“Deepak, a man with
impressing personality joined Rotary Club, Pune Shivajinagar
in the year 1991. He quickly grasped both, the anatomy and
philosophy of the club and started working on various club
assignments and in the process always won the laurels. Being
a good orator, very soon he befriended everyone in the club
as well as the bigwigs from the Rotary District 3130. Since
then there was no looking back for him and no wonder in due
course of time, he emerged as a potential President Material.
He was installed as the club President for the Rotary year
2005 – 06.” |

“Under the leadership
of President Deepak, Rotary Club, Pune Shivajinagar has had
its best run in the recent times. All said and done, the Rotary
year 2005 - 06 will go down in the history of the club as
the most successful one. A year of seeming endless achievements.
Over a dozen beautifully planned and well executed prestigious
projects, a very impressive show on the day of District Governor’s
visit to the club and over 40 very interesting programmes
one after another. Just bare statistics alone are enough to
allow a sense of déjà vu to overwhelm the followers
of Rotary spirit. Even the cynics cannot but admire the performance
of the President.
Deepak sprouted a magical wing and soured to unimaginable
heights as if feeding on some rare elixir. Deepak has indeed
very bright future in Rotary.”
